Molecular consequences of pesticides
Scientific question
How do pesticides affect the proteomes and phosphoproteomes of crops and humans? And what insights can be derived regarding the desirable and undesirable effects of pesticides?
Approach
Dose-, time-, and, where possible, tissue-resolved measurement of the proteomes and phosphoproteomes of maize, barley, wheat, rice, and sunflower, and human cell cultures in response to the most common herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides. Pooling and mining of molecular data in ProteomicsDB.
Expected results
Detection of signal transduction processes induced or suppressed by pesticides and changes in gene expression. Insights into the molecular mechanisms of action of pesticides and the functionalization of protein phosphorylations. Testing a new type of pharmacodynamics in plant and human model systems.
