Gibberellin-regulated processes in barley germination
Scientific question
Which proteins are mobilized and activated during barley germination, and how have these processes changed during barley domestication and use for beer production.
Approach
Time-, physiology- and, where possible, tissue-resolved proteomics and phosphoproteomics of barley germination in modern and historical malting barley. Comparison of the germination process between barley, wheat, maize and rice.
Expected results
Detection of quality-determining traits and signal transduction processes, identification of new hormone transporters, insights into conservation of germination behavior between different species, and evolution of processes during barley breeding.
