Highlights include the following events organized by the Green Office Weihenstephan
in the central auditorium building.
Fair of Possibilities – sustainable initiatives & projects at the Weihenstephan campus (12 – 5 p.m.)
Poster exhibition and information fair with participation of sustainable (student) initiatives, departments, and other institutions on campus
Sustainability Assessment – what, how, why? (12 – 5 p.m.)
Research and teaching activities on sustainability assessment will be presented. Research on wood-based circular bioeconomy, climate change mitigation services of forests and wood, and sustainability assessment methods will be presented on posters and illustrative objects. Guests will be able to learn about influencing factors and relationships by participating in a resource learning game, and calculate their own carbon footprints with the ClimateWe App developed by TUM students and graduates, thereby entering into interactive conversation and discussions.
Fungi for Future – The great potential of fungi to support a circular bioeconomy. (12 – 5 p.m.)
Fungal biotechnology can advance the transition from our petroleum-based economy into a bio-based circular economy and has the ability to produce food, animal feed, chemicals, fuels, and textiles and other materials for the construction, automotive, furniture, and transportation industries and beyond. Fungi therefore have the potential to make a significant contribution to climate change mitigation and meeting the United Nation’s sustainable development goals through the rational improvement of new and established fungal cell factories. Our exhibition will present these potentials through posters and by showcasing some research projects and materials.
Plant Swap Party (12 – 3 p.m.)
Anyone can come by with plants and cutting – gladly also vegetable plantlets – and exchange them.
Bayisics – Bavarian Citizen Science Portal for Climate Research and Science Communication ( 12 – 6 p.m.)
What exactly is the impact of climate change in Bavaria? How does it change plant growth and animal activity? Are the tree line and pollen count in the Bavarian Alps changing? Visitors can learn more about this topic and participate in climate research in Bavaria. The BAYSICS portal and the BAYISCS Nature Explorer will be presented. Two web applications enable users to experience climate change in Bavaria first-hand and carry out independent analyses.
