At ZIP, TUM pools strengths that are spread across several of its locations. The result is an interdisciplinary research team that works at the interface between livestock and human health. Prof. Dietmar Zehn (Executive Director at ZIP and Chair of Animal Physiology and Immunology) and the leading scientists Percy Knolle (Chair of Molecular Immunology), Li Deng (Chair of Prevention of Microbial Diseases), Bernhard Küster (Chair of Proteomics and Bioanalytics) and Benjamin Schusser (Chair of Biotechnology of Reproduction) will work in competence teams on the topics of microbiome, microbiology, immunology, technology and translation.
In order to be able to carry out this research using the latest technical methods, an energy-efficient building of 2,600 square meters with laboratories, offices and communication areas is being built. This is being funded with a total of 60 million euros from the federal and state governments. Dr. Florian Herrmann, Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, Andreas Kronthaler, Chief Building Director of the Freising State Building Authority, Monika Schwind, Director of Finance for the City of Freising, and Jeanne Rubner, TUM Vice President Global Communication and Public Engagement, accompanied the event with speeches that emphasized the importance of the center for top international research and the School of Life Sciences at the Weihenstephan site.
