Originating in the USA, the fitness trend has also enjoyed great popularity in German-speaking countries for several years. A calisthenics facility opened in Freising on Fürstendamm was considered a positive example for the campus. The new sports facility has been available for use since July 2023.
"Students, employees and all other sports enthusiasts will enjoy it," Tobias Pylypiw, department head of Freising at ZHS, is certain. The facility was financed mainly with funds from the TUM School of Life Sciences, primarily thanks to a generous donation from Prof. em. Scheman. Other sponsors included the Zentrale Hochschulsport München (ZHS), the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) and the Weihenstephan Brewery. The TUM Central Department 4 - Real Estate and Facility Management took care of the assembly and the outdoor facilities.
The term calisthenics means "beautiful strength" in ancient Greek. The exercises do not only train individual muscles, but always entire muscle groups. Synonymously, the term streetworkout is also used; the sport has now developed into an entire lifestyle.
