Stephan Pauleit’s scientific focus is on the planning and sustainable development of natural and cultural landscapes, particularly in urban areas. In recent years, he has intensively studied the adaptation of cities to climate change.
With the Environmental Medal, the Free State of Bavaria honors individuals, organizations, and municipalities that have made special commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. Stephan Pauleit received this award for his work in urban ecology and landscape planning. Through numerous national and international projects, he has made a significant impact on developing innovative approaches to dealing with the challenges of climate change.
“To ensure that we can continue to enjoy a high quality of life in our cities and urban regions, we must succeed in balancing the growing demand for housing with the need for green spaces,” emphasized Environment Minister Glauber in his speech. Stephan Pauleit had provided help with this crucial task for the future with his knowledge, experience and commitment.
The award underlines the great importance of his research and its potential to create sustainable solutions for cities and communities through innovative approaches. Stephan Pauleit is the second member of TUM School of Life Sciences to receive the Environmental Medal of the Free State of Bavaria for outstanding environmental contributions in 2024, following Professor Chris-Carolin Schön, Professor of Plant Breeding.
