TUM TechCores – leading technology centers
To ensure optimal backing for its research activities, the TUM School of Life Sciences will support talented scientists through professionally organized technology centers where skilled professionals will provide users with state-of-the-art technologies and scientific services. Building on the success of the Bavarian Center for Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry already established in 2015, the Plant Technology Center, the Animal Research Center and the Food & Agro Center for Innovation & Technology have currently been founded.
PTC – Plant Technology Center
The TUM Plant Technology Center brings together expertise from plant sciences, ecology, forestry and agriculture to address current and future challenges of life sciences with an inter- and transdisciplinary approach.
With its long experience regarding both controlled and outdoor conditions, the PTC provides excellent conditions for scientific experiments in these research areas.
The founding director is Prof. Chris-Carolin Schön.
ARC – Animal Research Center
Animal research is highly relevant for agriculture, life sciences and medicine.
The ARC provides the necessary research infrastructure for small and large animals, including aquaculture. New research and husbandry facilities and the establishment of a Genetic Engineering Core Unit will make the ARC internationally competitive.
The director is Prof. Benjamin Schusser.
FACIT – Food and Agro Center for Innovation and Technology
The FACIT is a Tech Core Facility and university incubator for startups in the food, agriculture and biotechnology sectors.
The FACIT consists of two units: the TUM Venture Lab Food-Agro-Biotech (short: TUM Venture Lab FAB) accompanies start-up activities as part of the TUM Venture Lab network and supports them with know-how as well as university network. The second part, the Life Science Tech Core Facility, provides technical facilities and workshop infrastructure for start-up projects, as well as research and teaching.
The founding director is Prof. Arne Skerra.
BayBioMS – Bavarian Center for Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry
The BayBioMS is a science and technology platform of TUM providing state-of-the-art proteomics and metabolomics tools for application in biomedicine, plant and food research within TUM and research partners outside the university.
TUM's Friedrich N. Schwarz Research Station
Located at 1,262 meters above sea level in the forest above Berchtesgaden, the research station is an ideal starting point to explore the ecosystem of the Alps, especially the great diversity of habitats in the Berchtesgaden National Park.
Limnological Research Station Iffeldorf
The team from the TUM Chair of Aquatic Systems Biology, stationed at the Easter Lakes, is researching how warming due to global climate change is affecting the aquatic ecosystem and how these developments can be countered.
Environmental Research Station Schneefernerhaus
At the Schneefernerhaus at an altitude of 2,650 meters above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, scientists are observing how climate changes affect soils and the atmosphere, but also animal and plant life.
