E-mail-Etiquette
We at the Campus Office Weihenstephan will be happy to answer any questions you may have about studying at TUM. In order to answer your inquiries quickly and correctly, we kindly ask that you follow these instructions:
Please check first whether the information you need is accessible online
We publish relevant information concerning your studies at TUM online such as deadlines, addresses, language certificates.
You'll find important informartion regarding your degree program here and also on our FAQ pages.
Please use your TUM email address
In order to protect your data, students, lecturers and TUM staff are politely asked to use their own TUM e-mail address when communicating with us at the Campus Office. This helps us to assign your request to your person as well as protecting your personal information.
If a private e-mail address is used nonetheless, it should be as reputable as possible. Therefore,we recommend using an e-mail address that clearly states your first and last name so the mail is not marked as spam.
Choose a clear subject line
A meaningful subject of your e-mail helps us to understand and answer your requests much faster. Please state your request briefly in the subject line (e.g. “Application for withdrawal”).
Please write complete e-mails
Please try to describe your request briefly but with all necessary information.
Blank messages or single sentences are not sufficient. Also, we cannot open attachments if there is no explanation of the file's content.
Please do not send lists of general questions
We often receive lists of questions about basic facts about studying at TUM and the university itself. Please understand that we do not have the capacity to answer those lists of questions point by point. We will help you find the information yourself on our website.
Any general question has probably already been asked many times before and the answer is probably already made available for you on our website.
Do not send your request more than once
Please do not send us multiple identical requests or inquiries as they may delay processing. We will answer your e-mail as soon as possible.
Do not send the same request to more than one addressee
Please do not send identical requests to multiple email addresses or multiple people. This causes considerable additional work for many departments. If you are not sure to whom you should write, please use our contact form. Your message will be assigned to the responsible person.
If you write to another department (school, student services, uni-assist, etc.), please do not put campus.office(at)ls.tum.de in cc.
Please include your student number, application number or applicant number
Please always include the appropriate number for your request in your e-mail. If you are already a student at TUM, we need to know what program you are enrolled in as well as your student number.
We can answer questions from applicants faster if you provide your application or applicant number. You can find these numbers in your TUMOnline account under “Applications”.
Please do not send application documents by e-mail
Online applications to TUM are only accepted via the application portal TUMonline. Application documents must be uploaded there – this is mandatory.
We cannot accept or pre-screen application documents sent by e-mail.
